Gustafson, Gorillas Cruise Past Blue Tigers, 74-50

Josiah Gustafson scored a game-high 20 points, including 15 in the second half, to lead Pittsburg State University to a 74-50 victory over Lincoln University Monday (Jan. 5).


The victory helped the Gorillas (7-5, 3-1 MIAA) record their sixth win in seven games and bounce back from a 69-65 home loss to Lindenwood University Saturday afternoon. The Blue Tigers (4-11, 1-5 MIAA) dropped their fifth straight MIAA decision.

Pitt State led 33-25 at halftime on the strength of 50 percent shooting in the first half. The Gorillas finished the game 24 of 51 from the floor (47.1 percent).

Connor Kjer added 14 points on the strength of four of five shooting from 3-point range. The Gorillas connected of 10 of 17 triples in the contest. Dakota Jones added 12 points, while Lamie Dieng finished with nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Joshua Buie paced the Blue Tigers with 18 points, while Victory Scott chipped in with 11. LU shot just 29.2 percent from the field (14 of 48) in the contest, but the Blue Tigers converted 18 of 23 free throws in a game slowed by 41 combined personal fouls.

The Gorillas, who wrapped up a three-game home stand Monday, will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., Thursday (Jan. 8) to face defending NCAA Division II national champion University of Central Missouri at 7:30 p.m.
