Joplin developer talks about failing of Wallace Bajjali projects

Updated:
Life-long developer Jimmer Pinjuv reflects on development firm Wallace Bajjali.

"I think their original intentions were to make themselves a lot of money and improve the city of Joplin."

A self-described eternal optimist, he stands here with me on Wildwood Ranch, his master planned residential and business community that covers more than 2000 acres in Joplin.

"I thought it was such a huge and continuous piece of property that lent itself to all kinds of development."

When asked about Wallace Bajjali, his optimistic outlook turns to a realistic one.

"I think they were a little too quick in their analysis of the market. They really thought they could build 900 million to a billion dollars worth of product."

During a phone conversation, Joplin Mayor Mike Seibert says Wallace Bajjali did not meet the city's expectations. Regardless, the city has plans to still move forward with some of the redevelopment projects.

"This really is our opportunity to hit the reset button, to get away that binding master development agreement and to open up opportunities for local developers and to bring those jobs and bring those projects in," said Seibert.

Pinjuv says whether it was Wallace Bajjali or another firm, the only way for such large development deals to succeed in Joplin is for there to be more jobs to entice people to live in the city.

"That is the only thing that will make it a better place," said Pinjuv.
