Hackett Hot Wings Sees Spike in Sales on Super Bowl Sunday

Updated:
Super Bowl Sunday brings a boost in sales for Hackett Hot Wings.

The local Joplin hot spot usually makes a little more than 6,000 wings on an average ten hour day, and made about the same amount for Super Bowl fans but in half the time.

The restaurant is usually closed on Sundays, but stayed open to accommodate customers picking up their special pre-ordered hot wings for the big game.

"I am a woman so I love to plan ahead. I got 200 wings, fifty of each flavor just to kind of give it a good variety. We got 200 because we're having some people over and i love leftovers,” says Joplin resident Caley Hedman.

"It's always prepared. When we quit this year we prepare for next year. It's like a year thing so you know it just depends on who the team is, who's playing and stuff like that. How many wings we're going to do, less, more, or whatever to get everybody taken care of,” says Co-owner Floyd Hackett.

Hackett says this year he sold double the amount of dry versus wet wings this year.

The National Chicken Council reports about 1.25 billion wings will be eaten on Super Bowl Sunday. That's almost 6,000 times the weight of the Seahawks and Patriots entire 52 man rosters.
