Oklahoma State From a Distance

Riding the wave of wins over ranked opponents in three consecutive games, Oklahoma State now has two wins over teams ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press poll and five wins over teams ranked in the AP top 25. Using this week's RPI rankings according to the NCAA, OSU has three wins over teams with an RPI in the top 15, six wins over teams with an RPI in the top 50 and nine wins over teams with an RPI in the top 100.

The Cowboys are led in the scoring column by Le'Bryan Nash (17.1 points per game) and Phil Forte (17.0 points per game), but get big contributions from defensive specialist and rim protector Michael Cobbins (second in the Big 12 with 2.15 blocked shots per game) and Anthony Hickey (a career 1,000-point scorer who has recorded double-figure scoring totals in each of the last three games), as well.

While most conversations about OSU start with Forte and Nash, an argument can be made that Hickey is just as important to the Cowboys' fate as those two. In OSU's 16 wins, Hickey averages 9.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game and shoots .451 pct. from the field and .387 pct. from three-point range. In OSU's seven losses, Hickey averages 8.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game and shoots .333 pct. from the field and .270 pct. from deep.

Oklahoma State is a formidable defensive team. The Cowboys rank in the top 50 nationally in many of the prominent defensive statistical categories and are a top-35 team nationally in steals, blocked shots, field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. A look at some of the areas where OSU has established a strong identity this season:

TCU From a Distance

Coming off a 66-43 loss to Texas in Austin earlier in the week, TCU has lost its last seven games. The Horned Frogs started the year on a tear, winning their first 13 games, but the dynamic changed once conference play started, with TCU losing 10 of its 11 Big 12 matchups.

The Horned Frogs' season totals indicate that they are very good defensively and on the glass, though each of their last five opponents have shot .462 pct. or better from the field and the Frogs have been outrebounded by each of their last four opponents. On the year, TCU has limited its opponents to 60.2 points per game on .381 percent shooting from the field and averages a remarkable 14.21 offensive rebounds per game. Additionally, the Horned Frogs average a very strong 5.4 blocked shots per game.

On the individual level, guard Kyan Anderson leads the way with 13.0 points and 4.0 assists per game. He does a significant amount of his damage by getting to the free throw line, evidenced by the fact that he has gotten to the line 100 times this season and leads the Big 12 by converting on 87 percent of those attempts. Forward Kenrich Williams averages 8.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and has grabbed nearly as many offensive rebounds (74) as he has defensive rebounds (87).

An Oklahoma State Win Would...

? Be its fifth road victory of the season and its third in a row over a Big 12 opponent. During the non-conference portion of the schedule, OSU won at Memphis and beat Missouri in Kansas City in a game that the NCAA considers a home game for Mizzou. In Big 12 play, the Cowboys have wins over Texas in Austin and Baylor in Waco.

? Improve the Cowboys to 8-5 in the Big 12. OSU was picked to finish eighth in the conference this preseason, but has far outperformed those expectations to this point.

? Improve the Cowboys to 9-0 all-time in games played against TCU in Fort Worth.

? Mark its 11th straight over the Horned Frogs, dating back to 1986.

? Improve the Cowboys to 13-1 against unranked opponents this season.

? Improve the Cowboys to 8-0 against teams from the state of Texas this season.

? Extend the Cowboys' current overall winning streak to four games - their longest in Big 12 play since winning four consecutive games over Texas Tech, TCU, Kansas and Kansas State last season.

Streaks and Trends Entering the TCU Game

? Oklahoma State has won four of its last five games overall and has won two straight on the road.

? Oklahoma State is 10-1 this year and 105-19 under Travis Ford when attempting more free throws than the opponent.

? Oklahoma State has recorded at least five steals in 22 of its 24 games this year and has 47 steals in its last five games (9.4 per game).

? Anthony Hickey has made nine of his last 15 three-point attempts in his last three games (.600 pct.), which is a significant improvement from the .322 percent that he had been shooting from beyond the arc prior to his current hot streak.

? Phil Forte has made only six three-pointers in his last four games, but has made 24 free throws during that same timeframe.

? Phil Forte has made 52 of his last 56 free throw attempts, dating back to OSU's win over Texas on Jan. 10 (.929 pct.)

? Phil Forte has scored in double figures in 23 of his 24 games this year and 32 of his last 34 games, dating back to last season.

? Phil Forte has converted on 11 of his last 19 field goal attempts (.578 pct.) and seven of his last 14 three-point field goal attempts vs. TCU (.500 pct.)

? Michael Cobbins has blocked at least one shot in 19 of his 21 games this year and in 25 of his last 28 games, dating back to last season.

? Mitchell Solomon has grabbed 15 rebounds in his last four games (3.8 per game). His minutes have also skyrocketed of late, as he has averaged 15.0 minutes played per game in his last four games, well up from the 10.1 minutes per game he averaged prior to this current span.

? OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 476 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.

The Series

Oklahoma State holds a 21-2 advantage in its all-time series with TCU, including an 8-0 mark in Fort Worth. OSU has swept the Horned Frogs each of the past two seasons and holds a 4-0 mark over TCU since it joined the Big 12. Dating back to 1986, the Cowboys have won 10 straight over the Horned Frogs and going back to 1925, OSU is 17-1 in its last 18 meetings with TCU.
