ROYALS AGREE TO TERMS WITH ERIC HOSMER ON TWO-YEAR CONTRACT

Updated:
The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has agreed to terms with first baseman Eric Hosmer on a two-year contract, avoiding arbitration.  Consistent with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hosmer, 25, earned his second-straight Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2014, batting .270 with 35 doubles, nine homers and 58 RBI in his 131 contests.  After getting off to a slow start, he batted .321 (53-for-165) with 14 doubles and five homers after July 1, which included a career-best 16-game hitting streak June 30-July 20.  He also produced a .351 average (20-for-57) with three doubles, a triple and two homers during postseason play.  Hosmer tripled and came around to score the tying run in the 12th inning of the Royals' 9-8 Wild Card Game victory over Oakland and also blasted the go-ahead home run in the 11th inning in Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Angels.  In four big league seasons, he has hit .275 with 118 doubles, 59 homers and 275 RBI in 570 games, all in a Royals uniform.

Hosmer was the Royals' final arbitration-eligible player to come to terms on a 2015 contract.

Tuition is still going up at Missouri Southern State University, but it's tweaking the cost increase to credit hours to avoid a state fine. Missouri Southern's Board of Governors approved a 15 percent increase in student tuition last April, upping credit hours by $30. But state education law doesn't allow tuition increases beyond the consumer price index. To avoid a $1.1 million fine, MSSU adjusted down the tuition increase to $20 more per credit.
