Divers Play Poker Underwater to Raise Money for Red Cross

Updated:
The Red Cross benefits from a game of poker but what makes this one special is location. It's underwater.

Divers keep the ultimate poker face wearing mask and scuba gear on while playing cards.

It's the 15th year for calypso scuba to host the fundraising event.

Divers communicate using hand signals and the dealer keeps score, writing notes to players on a slate board.

Stephanie Tilton was the ultimate winner after eight rounds of Texas Hold'em and says the game was difficult to get a hang of underwater, but worth the extra effort.

"Playing poker was a little challenging at first, the chips kind of floated away a little bit, putting them on the table, and the cards slid a little more than expected. But it was a blast,” says Tilton.

The dive shop and swim school also had chili cook off going on at the same time for spectators watching the high stakes match.

Organizers hope to raise about $500 for the Red Cross.
