Teens Resell Their Prom Dresses at a Discount

Updated:
A Joplin resale program aims to make prom dresses more accessible for the budget-conscious teen. The Peace Lutheran church organized the program. Girls who bring in their dress and set their own prices. The girls collect all the funds from the sale. Organizers says it's a win-win, for girls to earn back cash on their worn items, and for others to get a beautiful piece at a lower price.

"I think it's good because girls who don't have the opportunity or money to go to like TJ Formal, or go to a dress shop in Arkansas or Pittsburg and buy a brand new Sherri Hill dress or Jovani dress that's like five or six hundred dollars. They can come here to get one that someone else has worn and doesn't want them anymore for cheaper and then they can still have a dress that they love,” says Joplin High School student Hailey Radcliffe.

A $5 consignment and entrance fee, goes to Peace Lutheran Church who sponsored the event and Operation Fairy Godmother which helps pay for prom dresses for girls who can't afford them.
