Baxter Springs Walmart to close April 28th

Updated:
BAXTER SPRINGS, KANSAS - The Baxter Springs Walmart  will be closing its doors April 28th, 2015. The store has been open for more than 30 years, and has approximately 60 associates.

"After careful consideration Walmart has made the difficult decision to close its Baxter Spring, Kansas store," Anne Hatfield, spokesperson for Walmart said. "These are not decisions we make lightly. Baxter Springs is a strong community where we have a long history."

Statement from Walmart:
"The needs of our customers have changed as our customers are looking for fresh produce and a full grocery department, as well as general merchandise, as part of the overall shopping experience. We see this in current shopping patterns - our Baxter Springs customers are visiting local area stores to meet their grocery needs. While we're always looking for ways to best serve our customers, we can continue to meet their needs through the products and assortment we offer at surrounding area stores."

All associates are encouraged to apply for jobs at any nearby Walmart stores and will be given first priority for interviews.
