Impending weather keeps MODOT crews busy

Updated:
Workers spent the day prepping across the board, fueling up, checking plow blades and loading and delivering salt.

Mechanics stayed in-house to make sure all trucks are up and running. Department officials say the Joplin location has stayed well-stocked with supplies this winter.

The main concern for crew members is the people who choose to go out during poor conditions, just to watch.

A lot of times they can cause more hazard doing that than they can just staying home and watching out the bedroom window or something," said Ryan Boyd, maintenance crew leader. "That's been the main thing, mainly. If you don't have to be out in a snow storm or an ice storm, don't get out. Go ahead and stay at home and just relax and take it easy and let us take care of  the hard stuff out here."
