ROYALS AGREE TO TERMS WITH EIGHT PLAYERS ON CONTRACTS FOR 2015

Updated:

Press Release Kansas City Royals:

The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has agreed to terms on 2015 Major League contracts with right-handed pitchers
Jandel Gustave and Yordano Ventura, catcher Francisco Pena, infielders Orlando Calixte and Christian Colon and outfielders Reymond Fuentes, Terrance Gore and Paulo Orlando.  Per club policy, terms of the deals were not released.

Ventura, 23, had a phenomenal rookie season, going 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA (65 ER in 183.0 IP) with 159 strikeouts with the Royals in 2014.  He also posted a 3.20 ERA in five postseason appearances, earning the win with 7.0 shutout innings in Game 6 of the World Series.

Colon, 25, made his Major League debut in 2014, batting .333 (15-for-45) with five doubles, a triple and eight runs scored in limited action with Kansas City.  The Royals' first round selection in 2010 also played in two postseason games, scoring the winning run in the 12th inning of KC's 9-8 Wild Card triumph over Oakland.

Gore, 23, also made his Major League debut last season, playing in 11 games for the Royals, recording five stolen bases.  He also appeared in six postseason games, recording three steals and two runs scored.

Fuentes, 24, was acquired by the Royals in November in a trade with the San Diego Padres.  He split the 2014 season between Double-A and Triple-A in the Padres' system, hitting a combined .294 with 15 doubles, five triples, five homers and 25 steals in 88 games.

Pena, 25, also made his Major League debut in 2014, seeing his first action with the Royals on May 20 vs. the White Sox.  He blasted 27 homers for Omaha last season, which were the most by a Pacific Coast League catcher and ranked fourth overall in the league.

With the eight players signed today, all 40 members of the Royals' Major League roster have agreed to terms for the 2015 season.
