Press Release MSSU:

The Missouri Southern baseball team completed the four-game sweep of visiting Lindenwood today by defeating LWU 10-6 at the MSSU Baseball Field.

Southern (10-0, 4-0 MIAA) saw a solid pitching performance from starter Cody Hutchinson as he went six innings, striking out nine and walking none. Kannon Hoover threw in relief and Kyle McCulloch picked up his second save of the weekend, throwing the final two and two thirds of an inning.

MSSU got on the board first when the Lions scored three runs in the first, all with two outs. Hoffman got things started, singling through the left side, and Tee Helsel followed that up with a single, putting runners at the corners. Jesse Rall then took the first pitch he saw and deposited well over the left-field fence for his second home run of the season.

Southern scored four more runs in the third. Jon Davis had a two-RBI single and Chad Shannon had his own two-RBI base knock.

Lindenwood (5-10, 0-4 MIAA) scored two in the fourth, but Southern got a run right back in its half of the inning. After Lindenwood scored three more in the sixth and another in the top of the seventh, the MSSU bats again came alive and scored two more runs in the bottom half of the seventh.

Shannon singled home Davis and Mitch Osburn scored on a wild pitch.

Hoffman went 4-5 with three runs scored in the game. Rall went 1-2 with three RBIS and two runs scored, while Davis had a pair of hits, RBIs and two runs scored. Shannon went 2-5 with three driven in. Helsel had a hit and a run scored.

Southern will be back in action tomorrow afternoon. Originally slated to play a pair of games at Arkansas-Fort Smith, that series has been moved to Joplin and Southern will now host UAFS. First pitch of the double-header will be 1 pm.
