American Legion Celebrates 96 Years of Service

American Legion celebrates 96 years of service helping our nation's true servicemen and women.

Cherokee, Kansas's local chapter, Post 35, held a birthday celebration, a chance for veterans to reconnect and share their past experiences.

We asked the veterans what they thought about what White House officials say the President's new military strategy is, to keep almost ten thousand troops in the Afghanistan till 2016 or later, instead of pulling out half of them out by the end of this year.

"He talks about bringing everybody out and then next thing he says 'nope they're not coming. He needs to make a plan and stick with it,” says Navy Veteran Byron Whitlock.

"We have an obligation as soldiers, and if that's where we need to be that's where we need to be and they know that.  And I hope that the general public out there continues to support them,” says American Legion Post 35 Commander Randy Bole.

"I don't feel like we have any business being there. now we're ‘gonna do this let's go in full force and let's get over and take care of it....take care of business is the way I look at it,” says Air Force veteran Dennis Gaston.

The President hasn't officially released a final decision on how long troops will be stationed in Afghanistan and an exact head count has yet to be determined.
