JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

The Joplin Blasters announced today that Missouri native Shawn Tiemann will join the front office as the Director of Broadcasting. Tiemann will serve as the lead play-by-play voice for all Blasters games on ESPN Radio 1560 WMBH.

Tiemann spent last season in the independent American Association as the broadcast and media relations assistant for the Sioux City Explorers. He worked his first season of minor league baseball in 2013 with the Laredo Lemurs, a South Division member of the American Association. The Blasters will also compete in the South Division.

Shawn brings 15 years of radio and television play-by-play experience to Joplin. He has called baseball games at various levels, including high school, American Legion, and summer collegiate. Shawn has been a fill-in for Rogers State University baseball the last few years. He is currently the voice of Rogers State (NCAA Division 2) men's and women's basketball and broadcasts high school football as well. Shawn has also provided fill-in work for John Brown University, Northeastern State, Oral Roberts University, and South Dakota State.

“I'm so ecstatic and honored to have been chosen for this opportunity with the Blasters. I'm extremely grateful to GM Shawn Suarez and the rest of the front office for entrusting me with this position,” Tiemann said. “It's been a goal of mine for some time now to serve as the voice of a professional baseball team. I hope to provide the franchise and the city of Joplin with quality play-by-play, and help develop a following for the Blasters on radio and online.”

Shawn is a proud native of St. Louis, Missouri. His broadcasting career has included stops in Illinois, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Tiemann currently resides in Tulsa with his wife, Lorena, and son, Xavier.

“Baseball was my first love growing up in St. Louis. If you were born there, it was highly frowned upon to root for any other Major League team than the Cardinals,” Tiemann chuckled. “My early passion for sports and broadcasting has helped shape my work as a play-by-play announcer. I look forward to sharing that with the Joplin community.”

The Blasters open their inaugural 2015 season on May 21st at renovated Joe Becker Stadium against the defending American Association champion Wichita Wingnuts. For ticket and general information on the Blasters, visit www.joplinblasters.com, or call 417-437-6105.
