$100K ticket sold in Joplin

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

A Missouri Lottery Scratchers purchase while passing through the state has landed an Oklahoma resident a $100,000 prize. Darin Johnston, a truck driver from Oklahoma City, stopped at Pilot Travel Center, 11570 Highway FF, in Joplin on March 12 to grab a bite to eat and buy a Missouri Lottery Scratchers ticket.

"I try to play in every state I drive through," began Johnston. "I bought a few tickets and didn't win anything. So I decided to buy one more."

That additional ticket, a "$5,000,000 Jackpot" Scratchers ticket, contained the $100,000 second-tier prize.

Johnston, who uncovered the prize while eating with other drivers, said that the room erupted when he realized he had won the prize. The 54-year-old added that this was the largest Lottery prize he has won out of all the states he has played in.

At the time of claiming his prize, Johnston had yet to make any plans for his new fortune, saying he would rather wait to make plans until he had his check in-hand.

"$5,000,000 Jackpot www.molottery.com="" scratchers.do?method="singlegame&game=935">" is a $20 Scratchers ticket that offers players the chance to instantly win up to $5 million. The game, which was introduced on Aug. 8, 2013, currently offers more than $22 million in remaining prizes, including more than $5.5 million in top-tier prizes.
