Neosho Business & Industry Review exhibits economic growth

Updated:
Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce members say there is currently a lot of economic growth in the area across the board.

Many describe this year's Neosho Business & Industry Review as having an optimistic atmosphere.

"I believe it's on the upswing," said Bill Tucker, Air & Water Solutions. "I think things are doing better. There is a good positive attitude."

"I think that the energy is great here in Neosho," said Ashley Ackerson, event coordinator for the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce.

Of the more than 80 businesses present, many say there seems to be a trend in the number of businesses offering a specific service, rather than a product.

"Whether it's in healthcare or lawn service, or any other type of service you would need as a homeowner or a renter living in the city, those services are growing and doing very well here today," said Richard Davidson, mayor.

Officials say not only is there expansion among existing businesses, but also a number of new companies opening shop.

"We just opened a business this last year, and the community has been very welcoming of it," said Ashley Bennett, Legacy Original Customs & Detail.

City officials say they are also seeing a lot of growth in the industrial field.

"We're starting to see some growth out in the industrial park," said Troy Royer, city manager. "We're seeing some warehouse expansions and building."

Sales tax revenue in the city is up 14 percent compared to this time last year.

"The full booth space you see here is just an indication that Neosho is growing," Davidson said. "Neosho is doing great, and there are always better things to come."

While there is some friendly competition among business owners, many say they want to see each other succeed.

"If the other businesses do well, then we end up doing well," said Jeremy Spears, Comprehensive Facility Services, LLC.

"It's a very, very tight-knit community now," Tucker said.

The Neosho Business & Industry Review will also be held again tomorrow at Neosho High School from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
