Cherokee County Sheriff's Department releases new information about Texas woman found dead in Scammon

Updated:
Shannon Fonda, 35 of Midland, Texas, was found Monday morning in a field on the north edge of Scammon, Kansas. Her car was found in the same location. An autopsy conducted Tuesday determined Fonda died from shock and complications due to burns that covered about 90 percent of her body.

Sheriff David Groves says authorities are still putting together the circumstances surrounding the death.

"We're still in contact with authorities down in Texas and trying to determine what might have led her to come to southeast Kansas, what she did along the way," said Groves. "At some point she left Midland, Texas and arrived in Cherokee County, so what was her route, what did she do and things like that. So we're just trying to piece that together at this point."

Cherokee County deputies continue to work with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on the investigation.
