Press Release MSSU:

The 11th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team battled high winds and came out on the wrong end of a slugfest today, falling 17-10 at Southwest Baptist in non-conference action.

The Lions (26-7) fell down 10-0 after two innings, but fought their way back. Richie Gorski singled home Evin Nattick in the second for the Lions' first run.

Matt Smith tripled home Jon Davis in the fourth and Jacob Bryant followed that with an RBI single, scoring Smith to cut the lead to just seven at 10-3. Tee Helsel added a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the lead in half.

SBU added two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth, before the Lions answered back with a Nattick home run in the sixth to make the score 12-6.

Two more SBU runs in the sixth pushed the score to 14-6, but Davis hit the first of his two home runs on the day in the seventh before Smith added a sacrifice fly to make the score 14-8.

Jesse Rall and Davis hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth to get the Lions within four (14-10) but SBU added three in the bottom half of the inning to put the game away.

Davis went 4-5 in the game with two driven in and four runs scored. He had two home runs, part of five on the day hit by the Lions. Natick went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI, adding a home run of his own, while Gorski went 3-5 with an RBI. Helsel had two hits with a paif of runs and RBIs, including a home run. Rall had a home run, while Gorski and Davis had doubles and Smith added a triple.

The Lions will be back in action this weekend traveling to Edmond, Okla. to take on Central Oklahoma in a MIAA matchup. Due to expected weather on Sunday, the series has been moved up a day. The teams will play a single game on Thursday, two on Friday and a final game on Saturday.
