Joplin High School allegation serves as a reminder to parents

A local information technology expert says the Joplin High School investigation should be a reminder for parents to know exactly what's on the children's phones and computers.

Workers at SNC Squared say the Dropbox app that the students allegedly used is simply an Internet-based file sharing system.  People can view files and pictures as soon as they get the internet address showing where those files are showed.  

Workers at the tech company say parents should put a password that only they know on app stores.  Also, it's important that parents allow apps and programs only that they are familiar with.

"There's an app out there that you can actually store pictures on your phone and it requires a four digit password.  If you put in the right four digit password, you will see the official photos that you want to see.   If you put any other password, it will unlock it, but it will show you just the very PG type photos," says John Motazedi with SNC Squared.

"Do you block any of the information and put parental restrictions on the phone to know what the kids are doing?  What we also recommend is also do random spot checks.  Check what's on the kid's phones.  You should always know what the password is to your kids' phones.  You should know what the password is to the app stores," says Motazedi.

"It's interesting when you give enough time to a kid, and nothing else to do, and not monitor what they're doing, it's hard (for a parent) to break through these barriers.  So everyone says how can be protect the kids?  The biggest challenge is you can't protect them 100 percent.  You have to change the behavior of the children," says Motazedi.

Experts recommend putting data caps on your child's cell phone plan.

    The Wyandotte Nation is searching for the next Chief of Police, according to the Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma. Ken Murphy has resigned his position as Chief of Police of the Wyandotte Nation Tribal Police Department (WNTPD) after serving in the position for nine years. Officer Faron Lee, who has served with the department for eleven years, will serve as Interim Police Chief.
