One year passes since Baxter Springs tornado

Updated:
The same EF-2 tornado that hit Quapaw, Oklahoma traveled northeast and hit Baxter Springs, Kansas. Approximately 100 homes sustained damage, about 55 of which were destroyed. Six businesses and two senior living complexes were also destroyed. Residents and officials from surrounding cities and counties volunteered to help those affected and to rebuild the town.

"It meant a lot not only because of the assistance provided on the ground but to the victims impacted by that storm it meant a lot knowing that there were so many people out there that cared not only cared but were willing to get in their cars come over from where ever they came from and help out," said Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

The Baxter Springs Long Term Recovery Committee has coordinated efforts to rebuild the city.
