Press Release PSU:

Pittsburg State University men's basketball coach Kevin Muff announced today (Apr. 29) that Chris Owens from Springdale (Ark.) High School has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Gorillas in 2015-16.

Owens, a 6-foot-3 guard, averaged 20.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game as a senior for the Bulldogs. He finished his prep career as a two-time Arkansas Class 7A All-State performer, earning Class 7A Top 5 honors (first-team) in 2015.

Owens scored 25 or more points seven times during his senior season, ending his prep career with three straight double-doubles with more than 20 points and 10 rebounds in each contest. Following the season he was selected as a 2015 Arkansas High School Coaches Association West All-Star.

As a junior he helped Springdale to a 24-6 record and the Class 7A state runner-up finish. Owens scored a game-high 30 points in the state finals.

In addition to his basketball accolades, Owens also was a two-time All-Conference football athlete for the Bulldogs.

"As an exciting and dynamic scorer, Chris will bring added depth to our guard position for the next four years," Muff said. "We are extremely pleased that Chris chose Pittsburg State as his future home and I believe Gorilla Nation will enjoy watching him contribute to the success of our program.

"Under the leadership of coach Brad Stamps, Chris has developed his love of the game and his skill set to be an immediate impact player."

Owens is the second player to sign with Pitt State for the 2015-16 season. Cloud County Community College's Creighton Brinker inked with the Gorillas on Apr. 15. Brinker averaged 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore for the Thunderbirds this past winter.

Pitt State captured the MIAA Postseason Tournament Championship and qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament during the 2014-15 season. The Gorillas finished the year with a 20-12 overall record.
