Horses Healing Hearts Welcomes Veterans

Updated:
NEOSHO, MISSOURI - A horse ranch in Neosho hoping to help veterans deal with PTSD and adjust to civilian life, opens its doors to the public.

Horses Healing Hearts is a mission to help veterans. Started by Dawn Newlan four years ago, today the group celebrates its success with a ribbon cutting and open house barbeque.

As the ranch transitions from 50 riders into a full time facility, Newlan is hoping to reach more veterans and those who've suffered from emotional trauma.

Newlan faced a hard time when her husband died, and says horses helped her find herself.

"Horses see you for who you are. Not for what people think you are or who you think you are. They see you really. And good people are good people. And everyone's got a good heart. It's just a matter of finding it. And a horse sees it."

All veterans can ride free of charge. The ranch is also working on getting a therapeutic riding trainer soon to expand its reach to those with disabilities.
