Comic Book Lovers Celebrate "Free Comic Book Day"

Updated:
Joplin, MO - Comic book fans nationwide celebrate "Free Comic Book Day."

In Joplin, fans of all ages flocked to stores like Hurley's Heroes in Joplin to steal some of the 1,100 free comics the store had up for grabs.

With Marvel's release of the big Avengers movie this weekend, store manager Jason Hurley says it helps bring people back into the store.

“After people see the movies, they see the avengers. They come in and they want to know more about the Avengers or sometimes specific characters. You get somebody that never really knew about Hawkeye and now they want to try and check out all the comics that he's been in.”

Hurley says he sees a big spike in business after the may holiday and into summer. On the same day DC Comics and Marvel also release teaser comics for their new big series, this year it's “Secret Wars” and “Divergence”, to keep the momentum going.
