Webb City PD investigating accidental discharge of a firearm

Updated:
WEBB CITY, MISSOURI -

The Webb City Police Department is investigating the accidental discharge of a firearm in a City park over the weekend. At approximately 16:30 hours on Saturday, May 9th officers with the Webb City Police Department were called to the playground at King Jack Park in reference to the accidental discharge of a firearm. While at the park with his family an off-duty Webb City Police Officer had to climb onto the playground equipment to help his small child who became distressed at the top of a slide. At some point the off-duty officer lost his off-duty firearm out of his concealed carry holster. Before he could reclaim the firearm a 6-year old boy had picked up and discharged the firearm. The bullet struck a slide. No one was injured. The Webb City Police Department's Internal Affairs division is investigating this incident and will make a recommendation for disciplinary action.
