New Details on Scammon Homicide Investigation

Updated:
CHEROKEE COUNTY, KANSAS - Scammon residents say they are surprised to learn that another murder has been connected to their small, quiet town of five hundred.

"Nowadays you have to wonder. You know, are you gonna turn the corner and somebody at nighttime if you go for a walk that someone's going to stab you. You don't know. and we have a lot of elderly people that live alone,” says Scammon resident Billie Lewis.

Neighbors are stunned, after 36-old crystal Galloway and 18-year-old Dakota Cunningham who they say just recently moved into the area are wanted in connection with the murder of 59-year-old Robin Fought of Dennis,Kansas, whose body firefighters found Friday after responding to a truck fire northeast of Columbus.

Neighbor Eric Hansen says "That's really got me surprised, you know. Blows me away that this happened. Then again it could be somebody at the wrong place at the wrong time. You never know."

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves says he is confident his team does have a motive for Fought's murder but has yet to release that information because the investigation is still ongoing.

He says that Fought and Cunningham would do various jobs together.

"The deceased and Dakota worked together, as far as recycling scrap metal, things like that."

An autopsy was performed on Saturday, but the Sheriff's office has yet to receive the report.

After a Texas woman's body was found in a Scammon field just two months ago, neighbors say they must remain vigilant

“Nowadays you don't know who they're letting move in town,” says Lewis.

Galloway and Cunningham are being held at the Cherokee County Jail, both on $100,000 bail.
