Flooding in Chetopa, KS Draws Fishermen

Updated:
CHETOPA, KANSAS - Rains also fill the Neosho River in Chetopa, Kansas, flooding portions of the city park.

The Police Chief was on site to make sure crowds of fishermen and visitors stay safe when entering the park.

Mayor Ron Wood says high water is a draw for anglers but the city has been lucky so far when it comes to flooding.

"Normally this park will have been underwater two or three times by now, and it's yet to flood this year. As much rain as we've had. I think Grand Lake is controlling the water a lot better, Burlington Lake is where our water comes from and they've been controlling that a lot better so we haven't had the floods like it used to be.”

The park's entire boat ramp is completely underwater. If the river spills out much more  in the next few days it could  close down Highway 166 just above it.
