KDHE emergency services will be available during furlough

Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) emergency services will be available in the event of a furlough. Services that are considered emergency services are listed below.

· Epidemiology hotline- The KDHE epidemiology hotline is utilized for doctors and hospitals to report required infectious diseases 24 hours per day. The epidemiology hotline will still be available for those reports.

· Environmental spill reporting line- The KDHE spill reporting line is used for required reporting of spills, discharges and emergency releases that can cause serious harm to the public health and environment. The spill line will still be available for these reports.

· KanCare eligibility- KanCare eligibility will still be determined during this time.

· Child care complaints- Child care complaints will still be received, only complaints with an immediate need for response or are emergencies will be investigated.

· Public water supply testing- Testing public water supplies for E. coli will still occur.

· Newborn screening- Newborn blood screening tests will still occur.

During the furlough, the Office of Vital Statistics will not be issuing any birth, death, marriage or divorce certificates, however provider reporting is still required.

Other services may become available if other emergencies arise, KDHE leadership will make those determinations on an as needed basis.
