Victims identified in homicide investigation; Suspect in custody

6/10/2015 6:33 PM - News Release from Joplin Police Department

Victim #1 is identified as Carissa L. Girard, 38, 4223 West 26th Place. Carissa was found to be deceased upon the arrival of officers.

Victim #2 is identified as Kristina S. Thompson, 38, 4223 West 26th Place. Kristina was transported by ambulance to Freeman Hospital and continues to receive medical treatment.

6/10/15 2:38 PM - News Release from Joplin Police Department:

On June 10, 2015, at 1227 the Joplin Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at 4223 West 26th Place. An adult male suspect submitted to officers upon their arrival. He was arrested without incident. Officers ascertained that the crime scene includes 4215 W. 26th Place as well as 4223 West 26th Place. An adult female victim was found deceased and another adult female victim was transported by ambulance to Freeman Hospital.

Joplin Police Detectives are on scene. We are very early into this investigation and therefore we are not releasing any details pertaining to the investigation at this time. We are withholding the identification of the victims pending notification of the families.

This was not a random crime and there are no other threats to the community at this time.

6/10/15, 1:44 PM - Joplin Police investigate after receiving report of gunshots fired just before 12:30 p.m., involving two residences off the 4200 block of W. 26th Place. Two victims were found with gunshot wounds. One victim is dead, the other has been transported to the hospital, condition unknown at this time. A male suspect remained on scene when authorities arrived, and is now in custody.

    Texas authorities arrest a man wanted for shooting a woman in Pittsburg over the weekend.  According to Pittsburg Police, Eric James Cravey was arrested around 3a.m. this morning.  Cravey was taken into custody by Hill County, Texas Sheriff's Department.  He will face extradition proceedings soon.  The 34 year old suspect is accused of shooting Vanessa McWhirt-Martin last Saturday.  She was last reported in critical condition.  Authorities have not rel...More >>
