Neosho to spray for mosquitoes

Updated:
NEOSHO, MISSOURI -

The City of Neosho Public Works Department will begin spraying for mosquitoes on Saturday, June 13, after dusk, at key points around Neosho.

Public Works will continue to spray on a rotating street schedule. If you know of a location that needs particular attention, please call Public Works at 417-451-8071.

Locations on Saturday will include the general vicinities of Stratford Place, Riverside, Lafayette, the South Street roundabout, the drainage ditch from Morrow Avenue to Harmony Street, and the retention pond behind True Value Hardware on LaQuesta Drive.

Other locations that have been specifically targeted for spraying include the full length of High Street, Main Avenue to High Street, all streets between Freeman Road and Shartel Drive, Ridgewood Road, Reid Road, McKinney Street, Hill Street, South Street, Cash Street, the RV park, Morse Park, the soccer fields, Old Seneca Road, and the retention pond on Landis Road.

The chemicals used for mosquito control spraying are approved by the EPA and pose minimal risk to humans or animals. People with asthma or other respiratory illness may want to stay indoors and close windows and doors during spraying.

In addition, homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed, and/or peeled before eating.

The City of Neosho continues to encourage residents to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats around their property. Remove or empty all outside containers that may hold water such as flowerpots, tires and toys. Bird baths and pet water bowls should be changed at least twice a week. Clean out gutters and make sure windows and doors have proper screening. Sweep up lawn clippings, leaves and tree limbs from sidewalks and driveways and dispose of them properly.

If you have any questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 417-451-8071.
