Joplin Skatepark Celebrates its Grand Opening

JOPLIN, MISSOURI - Skate boarders and BMX bikers show off their stuff at the grand opening celebration of the new Joplin Skatepark.

The park has been for ten days now, but for many this was a time to meet up with friends and share in the celebration.

The park is designed with four zones so kids of all ages and skill levels can use the facility at the same time. The open layout gives riders ample room to try out more advanced tricks

"Kids didn't have ramps, transition, most of the skating was done around the streets around Joplin before this park came. And that opens up a whole new branch and style of skating for everybody,” says Joplin parent Chad Rodriguez.

"I can tail whip a little better, and I've been able to like wall ride and tail whip and bar spins and stuff,” says twelve-year-old Ayden Higdon.

"There's all kinds of stuff that can be done here. Lots of rails lots of ramps. Lots of flat ground stuff for beginner kids so its' great,” says Neosho skateboarder Dustin Shumaker.

The Joplin Skatepark was funded by a renewal of the Parks and Stormwater sales tax that voters renewed in 2011.
