Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern men's basketball coach Jeff Boschee has announced the addition of a coach and the promotion of another.

Boschee will be promoting Sam McMahon to the team's top assistant position this season. McMahon just finished his first year as an assistant with the Lions and he came to Southern after serving four years on the staff at Missouri State. This past season, the Lions advanced to the final of the MIAA Tournament for the second-straight year and recorded another 20-win campaign, finishing 20-11 and winning six of the team's last eight games. Four Lions earned MIAA post season honors this season with McMahon's help.

"I want to thank Coach Boschee for the tremendous opportunity to move up on his staff," McMahon said. "I am excited to continue learning from him (Boschee) and helping to improve the MSSU men's basketball program each and every day."

Joining the Lions is Jamahl DePriest. He comes to Southern after serving as an assistant coach at Langston (Okla.) University for the past season. This past year, Langston finished the season with a 16-11 overall record, while ranking seventh in the NAIA in three point defense, tenth in defensive rebounds and in the top 50 in seven other categories.

Prior to Langston, DePriest served as an assistant coach at Coffeyville Community College for two seasons. During his first season, DePreist helped the team win its third-straight Jayhawk East Conference title with a 18-0 league mark. Coffeyville finished 32-3 overall including the Sweet 16 finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament. The Ravens were ranked No. 2 in the final NJCAA poll of the season and reeled off 25-straight wins. In his second year at CCC, the Ravens finished the season at 23-9. DePriest coached four Division I players, and numerous Division II and NAIA players during his time at Coffeyville.

DePriest attended Southwestern Community College where he played basketball and served as a team captain. He was also a Student Ambassador and was named "Who's who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities." He continued his academic and athletic career at William Penn University. DePriest has a bachelor's degree in health science with a minor in psychology.

"I'm truly honored to be joining the Missouri Southern men's basketball staff," DePriest said. "I want to thank coach Boschee for the Opportunity. I'm going to work tirelessly to help this program in any way possible."

Boschee is excited to complete his staff with the promotion of McMahon, the addition of DePriest and the retention of Todd Johnston.

"I am very excited to add Jamahl Depreist to my coaching staff," Boschee said. "I would also like to welcome his fiancé Tylease Robinson, and son Zion to our family. Jamahl has extensive experience as a player and coach at the collegiate level. He had two great years as an assistant coach at Coffeyville Community College, under legendary head coach, Jay Herkelman, and as an assistant he was instrumental in turning around a Langston University basketball program. Everyone that I talked to said he was hard worker, relentless recruiter and a very loyal assistant coach. He will fit in great with what we are trying to accomplish together!

"Sam is one of the hardest working individuals that I have come across. He will provide great leadership and fellowship for our players and staff. I lean on Sam to help our group out with the work around the office and on the court. He has a great basketball mind and he brought great ideas to our program throughout the season. His passion for what he does is what sets him apart. I feel very fortunate to have him as an assistant coach."
