Westar Energy seeks input from customers on proposed rate increase

Westar is asking for a $152 million increase. Proposed changed include raising the customer charge by $3 in each of the next five years. It also includes changes to how rates are calculated for new solar energy users.

The second meeting will take place Thursday, July 23 at 4:30 p.m. at Wichita State University's Lowe Auditorium, 5015 E 29th St. Video conferencing will be held at the Kansas Cosmospshere, 1100 N Plum, in Hutchinson and Pittsburg High School, 1978 E 4th St., Pittsburg.

At each of the meetings representatives from the Kansas CorporationCommission, Westar Energy and the Citizens' Utility Ratepayer Board will be in attendance to answer customer questions.

An evidentiary hearing on Westar's request is scheduled to being Aug. 17.
