Four Pitt State Basketball Players Competing in Brazil

PITTSBURG, KANSAS -

Four Pittsburg State University basketball players – women's players Cathy Brugman and Kylie Gafford and men's players Javis Flynn and Denton Hays – have traveled to Brazil to compete for the USA D2 Men's & Women's Basketball - Brazil Tour 2015.

The USA D2 Basketball Teams will play doubleheaders Aug. 4-6 in the state of Sao Paulo against selected teams from the region. The squads then travel to Rio de Janeiro for their final game Aug. 10.

The women's squad includes Brugman and Gafford; Emporia State's Kathryn Flott; Dilonna Johnson from Southwest Baptist, Sharese Jones, Camila Lacerda and Tami Morice; and Lincoln's Kelsey Williams and Hunter Yoakum. MSSU head coach Ronda Hubbard will coach the team.

The men's squad includes Flynn and Hays; Nebraska-Kearney's Connor Beranek and Ethan Brozek;  Vince Fritz and Austin Wright from MSSU; Jordan Loyd from Indianapolis; D'Vante Mosby from Northwest Missouri; and Central Missouri's Brad Woodson. Retired MSSU coach Robert Corn will serve as head coach.

    "We're actually headed to the widow's house to pay our condolences," said Brian Liming. Liming and his friends paid a brief stop to a spot on a county road, just north of Independence, Kansas. It's where Brian's high school classmate Dennis Catron Jr. and his father, Dennis Catron Sr., lost their lives.

    After reviewing the Kansas Highway Patrol's investigation, the Cherokee County Kansas Attorney will not file charges against the driver of the van. On May 8th, 2018, two cyclists from Germany were riding on Highway 66 near mile marker 1.8 when they were hit by a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van. The cyclists, 71-year-old Heinz Gerd Buchel and 74-year-old Harry Jung, died at the scene. The highway patrol report states that the van was traveling west in the right lane of K-66 wh...
