Joplin Public Library Groundbreaking Ceremony - September 12th

Save the Date! On Saturday, September 12, you’re invited to join in a fun community event - the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Joplin Public Library.

Come learn more about the new facility as work begins on the site of the new Library,  1901 East 20th Street, while enjoying activities for all ages. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, with the Groundbreaking ceremony set for 11 a.m.

Refreshments and mementos will also be part of the festivities. Watch for more announcements as September 12 draws near. Hope to see you there! (Library site is located at the northeast corner of 20th and Connecticut Avenue.)

The Library project is a partnership with the Economic Development Administration, which awarded the City a $20 million grant to assist in the redevelopment of the 20th Street area following the 2011 disaster. The project will include site infrastructure repairs and improvements, as well as the new facility.

    Crews Battle Vehicle Fire On Highway 69

    The Cherokee Township, Weir, and Galena Fire Departments fought a vehicle fire today (May 25) around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 69 near Highway 103. According to authorities a truck was heading south on 69 Highway when the vehicle started smoking. The truck was then completely engulfed by flames. The driver managed to escape the vehicle without any serious injury. Crews had the fire put out by 8:00 p.m. No word yet on what caused the truck to catch on fire.More >>
