Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

The Missouri Southern Volleyball team has been picked to finish 11th in the 2015 MIAA Pre-Season Coaches Poll as announced by the league office today.

The Lions, under second-year coach John Napier, return seven players off a squad that went 8-22 last season. The Lions are coming off a season where they set the school team record in blocks per set and finished ranked sixth in the NCAA D-2 in that category. Southern is also returning All-MIAA performer Callie Whetstone who led the nation on both block assists and was second in total blocks.

Defending league co-champion Central Missouri was picked to finish at the top, earning nine of the 12 first-place votes. Washburn was picked second, followed by Nebraska-Kearney, Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western to round out the top five. Northwest Missouri State was sixth, followed by Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Pittsburg State, Southwest Baptist, Southern and Lindenwood.

Southern starts the season on September 4th and 5th at the Washburn Invitational presented by Capital Plaza Hotel and Convention Center.
