Meade Hired as Assistant Baseball Coach

Updated:
PITTSBURG, KANSAS -

Pittsburg State University head baseball coach Matt Murray announced the recent hiring of Aaron Meade as the Gorillas' assistant coach.

Meade comes to Pitt State after one season as an assistant coach at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., where he helped the Cardinals to 38 wins and the program's first NCAA Regional berth in 2015.

He will serve as the Gorillas pitching coach, while assisting with recruiting as well.

"I am excited for our staff to get an opportunity to learn and develop from an extremely detailed and competitive coach," Murray said. "In addition, Aaron has the positive energy required to be successful in the management of recruiting in a competitive league."

Prior to his coaching stint at Jewell, Meade served one season as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, Missouri State University, in 2014. He helped the Bears reach the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Tournament that year.

In the summer of 2014, Meade served as pitching coach for the Morehead City Marlins Coastal Plain League baseball team in Morehead City, N.C.

The Kansas City, Mo., native pitched three seasons at Missouri State (2008-10) before being selected in the 10th round of the MLB Draft by the California Angels.

Meade earned first-team All-MVC honors as a sophomore in 2009, posting a 9-2 record with a 3.39 ERA. He received an All-Star nod in the Cape Cod League that summer for the Harwich Mariners. Meade was a two-time All-MVC performer for the Bears (2009-10).

Meade was one of the Angels' top minor league pitching prospects in a pitching rich organization. In 2010, he was the Angels' instructional league pitcher of the year. Meade spent 2012 pitching in the Midwest League for the Angels' A ball affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and finished with a call-up to the Angels' High A affiliate, the San Bernardino 66'ers.

Meade earned his bachelor's degree in hospitality and restaurant administration from Missouri State in December 2014.
