Neosho Animal Shelter Gears Up to Open & Seeks Volunteers

Updated:
NEOSHO, MISSOURI -

From foster parent to shelter adoption director Leanne Williams with Faithful Friends Animal Advocates is set to open a brand new facility in Neosho.

"So this will be a huge help to the people who find themselves with strays, abandoned, and homeless animals. And need a place for them to go,” says Williams.

But before they can open they are in desperate need of more volunteers, thirty to forty of them.

"We need 10-12 people per four hour shift, just to do the bare minimums of keeping up to the standards that we've set. So that's a lot of people in a day in and out of the building."

All of these dog cages are now empty, but eventually if the shelter recruits enough volunteers they'll be able to house 40 dogs and 40 cats under one roof, filling a need in this area and helping to alleviate pressure on others.

Dana Daniel, Neosho Economic Development Director says "A large majority of the animals we pick up will be feral and are not good candidates, but those that are  good candidates for faithful friends, those will be good for them."

Daniel says about 10% of the animals animal control picks up will be able to go to the new shelter, meaning less trips to already overcrowded Joplin and Carthage shelters, a win-win for the city and the shelter, as long as enough volunteers step up to make their vision a reality.

"The more that the animals can have attention and interaction and observation the better off they will be and the more we will be able to help them and re-home them to appropriate homes that fit their needs and their personalities. So we'll always need a continual stream of volunteers. And right now we do not have enough,” says Williams.

The shelter has countless volunteer opportunities. For more information check out their website and call 417-592-2512, or email ffaaneosho@yahoo.com.
