PSU College of Technology Connect Students with Businesses During Company Day

Updated:

The college of technology at Pittsburg State University  connects students to potential employers.
It's company day. One hundred thirty-three   businesses in the fields of construction and design lined the halls of the tech center.
And that's just for day one. This year a second company day will be held tomorrow.
Companies collect resumes and look to recruit people trained and certified with certain skills.
Students say it's a tremendous opportunity to market themselves to future employers. Construction management major Josh Thompson is set to graduate in May of 2017 and says, "I feel like the school of construction  does an awesome job of promoting us, getting companies here, getting us exposed to them,   making contacts, networking. I mean ultimately, that could land you a full time job when you graduate  which is the goal "

Jessica Dutton the business development coordinator for CDL Electric says, "These kids are getting a great education  here. They're learning the skills and trades they need to have to  enter into the workforce." Dutton says her company has hired students from the company day event.

And Thompson says it's a dream opportunity for students to connect with so many companies in one day. He's come here for several years to make contacts. "I was here two years ago handing out resumes. It's important to network. There's some of the same guys I've been talking to for two years. I feel that's super  important  for me in my career and I mean potential employers."

Today companies in construction, graphics and imaging technology and wood technology met students.
On Wednesday, both automotive technology and engineering technology companies will be represented.
