Family of Neosho Teen Hit & Run Victim Seeks for Information from the Public

Updated:
NEOSHO, MISSOURI -

A reward and a public plea for information after a nineteen year old Neosho man was killed in a hit and run.

"It’s never too late to do the right thing,” says Carrie Winders, a cousin of Matthew Brooks Stevens.

Stevens was struck from behind while walking north at the intersection of Highway 59 and Malcolm Mosby Drive in Neosho, Missouri September 12th and the driver left the scene. Matthew was in the north-bound lane when he was found dead at 1:13am.

The Neosho high graduate had asperger's and never drove. He was walking from his girlfriend’s house to a friend’s.

Police say there was evidence left from a passenger vehicle and they are looking for two drivers who sped away from Buck's bar. Family members don't think it was intentional.

"I don't believe anyone would have set out to purposely do that. I do believe it was an accident. But we need that person to claim  responsibility and tell us what happened.  Give us the details we're searching  and give the family closure," says Winders.

A six thousand dollar reward is offered for information. Contact Neosho police or the Newton county sheriff’s office  if you saw anything or know of someone who damaged a vehicle   on the early  morning  of  September 12th.
