American Water presents check to The Alliance

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

The Alliance of Southwest Missouri is partnering with Missouri American Water on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 11:00-11:30 a.m. for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. At this time, Missouri American Water will be presenting The Alliance with a check to help keep the drug take-back boxes program funded so boxes can continue to be placed locally. This event will be held at the Joplin Police Department at 303 East 3rd Street in Joplin, MO.

The DEA began hosting National Prescription Drug Take-Back events in 2010. Since the induction of this initiative, the DEA has nationally disposed of over 4,000, 000 pounds of unwanted, unneeded, or expired medications. The disposal service is free and anonymous for consumers, with no questions asked.

The Alliance has been locally placing drug take-back boxes since January 2012. Since the initiative, over 2,000 pounds of medications have been collected and disposed of. Office Aaron Gooch, a supporter of the boxes, states that, “We always have events where people can come and drop off their expired medications. These boxes make that permanent, so people can bring them any time.” Other locations providing a take-back day on Saturday, September 26th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. are Walgreens in Neosho, the police department and Prater’s Pharmacy in Seneca, police department in Carl Junction, Webb City police department, Lamar police department, and McDonald County Sheriff’s department.

A list of all 10 locations where the drug take-back boxes are can be found on The Alliance’s website at www.theallianceofswmo.org.

The Alliance is dedicated in making the four-states a safer, healthier community. In order to keep our water clean and our teens safe, The Alliance would like to thank American Missouri Water for their dedication to our organization and their support to our cause.
