American Water presents check to The Alliance

The Alliance of Southwest Missouri is partnering with Missouri American Water on Friday, September 25, 2015 from 11:00-11:30 a.m. for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. At this time, Missouri American Water will be presenting The Alliance with a check to help keep the drug take-back boxes program funded so boxes can continue to be placed locally. This event will be held at the Joplin Police Department at 303 East 3rd Street in Joplin, MO.

The DEA began hosting National Prescription Drug Take-Back events in 2010. Since the induction of this initiative, the DEA has nationally disposed of over 4,000, 000 pounds of unwanted, unneeded, or expired medications. The disposal service is free and anonymous for consumers, with no questions asked.

The Alliance has been locally placing drug take-back boxes since January 2012. Since the initiative, over 2,000 pounds of medications have been collected and disposed of. Office Aaron Gooch, a supporter of the boxes, states that, “We always have events where people can come and drop off their expired medications. These boxes make that permanent, so people can bring them any time.” Other locations providing a take-back day on Saturday, September 26th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. are Walgreens in Neosho, the police department and Prater’s Pharmacy in Seneca, police department in Carl Junction, Webb City police department, Lamar police department, and McDonald County Sheriff’s department.

    Joplin Police received a call about an armed robbery on Sunday just before 10:00 p.m. (April 22, 2018). An employee at Charlie's Chicken (2020E. 32nd Street) says she locked the business up and was walking to her vehicle when a male walked up to her in the parking lot. She said he pointed a handgun at her and demanded the night deposit bag. She gave the suspect the bag and says he ran to the southwest. Police officers could not find him.
