Southeast Kansas Children's Advocacy Centers Receive Significant Grant Funding

Updated:
CRAWFORD COUNTY, KANSAS -

The state of Kansas releases more than one million dollars to children's advocacy centers across the state, two of them in Southeast Kansas.

The Crawford Children's Advocacy Center serves child victims of sexual abuse in Cherokee and Crawford County. It provides a neutral child friendly location for law enforcement and protective services to conduct forensic interviews with children when there has been an allegation of sexual abuse. The center was awarded just over $45,000 that will help to cover personnel, insurance, and accounting costs so they can continue to offer advocacy services free of charge.

"It accounts for about a third of our budget. So it is a significant amount of our overall operating and our ability to continue providing services. Without that funding we wouldn't be able to continue providing services at our current level,” says Crawford Children’s Advocacy Center Executive Director Tabitha Reavis.

Allen Hope Unlimited in Allen County also received close to $50,000 from this same grant, which will cover about 90% of their overhead expenses.
