Quapaw HS Band Students Cope After Witnessing OSU Parade Crash

Updated:
STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA -

The Quapaw High School Band was performing in the parade in Stillwater when the crash happened.

If you take a look at the blurry cell phone from the scene you can see their green banner as the car came plowing through the crowd, passing right in front of them, about 10-15 away from where the fifteen high school students were marching. Extra counselors were on hand at school today to help students still coping with the shock from the horrific accident.”

"The kids, they're doing fairly well. I'm so proud of them and how they've handled this because they're young. And you know, we saw things this weekend that nobody should ever have to see and they've handled it so well. And that's not to say that it's not been kind of rough, of course it has, but they're really resilient. They're really strong kids and, like I said, we kind of grouped together as a family when things like this happen,” says Quapaw Schools Band & Choir Director Sarah Fanning.

The band has two more high school football games and seven Christmas parades to prepare for this season. Today they took the day slowly, but Fanning says she's confident they'll be able to march on by the end of the week.
