Jasper County Water District 3 Seeks Revenue Bond on Nov. Ballot

Updated:
JASPER COUNTY, MISSOURI -

Jasper County voters Tuesday, will decide whether to pass $6.2 million bond for Public Water Supply District #3. The money would help the district become more self-sufficient. It would fund a new water tower and water well for residents in District 3, an area that covers about 300 square miles between Carterville and Carthage. Currently water is bought from Duenweg and Carterville. The money would come from a low-interest, long-term loan the district would gradually repay.

"If they are not using rural water it's not going to have any impact on them financially. These bonds are revenue bonds that are paid back from the sale of water to our customers. It's not a property tax bond. People's property taxes will not go up over this,” says Jasper County Water District 3 Board President Daryl Rhodes.

The bond issue was put up for vote in February and fell short of enough votes.  Currently the district serves about 500 customers. If approved, officials estimate they could serve at least 500 more.
