15,000 food items expected to be donated by realtor organization

Joplin, MO -

The Ozark Gateway Association of Realtors is working on its third annual food drive.  The group of realtors has collected food from real estate offices throughout the Joplin, Neosho, and Columbus, Kansas areas.  Food collected will go to eight local organizations, including the Lafayette House, House of Hope, Watered Gardens, Souls Harbor, and River Street Mission in Carthage.

"We call and check for need," says association member Spencer Aggus.  The board staff here has checked with all of those organizations to see what their needs are.  Some have greater needs than others, so we donated appropriately."

"We're going to meet the needs of families, about 15 hundred a year, just through our pantry alone," says James Whitford with Watered Gardens.  "And we'll serve about 45 thousand meals a year across our food line.  And so, there's a lot of need for food."

"There are probably around 600 individual people that are involved in the collection process, or are eligible to be involved in the collection process.  And we wound up having about eight offices that typically donate heavily," says Aggus.

The realtor organization expects to be on par with last year's 15,000 food item count.
