Twelve Gorillas Earn Conference Football Honors



KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Twelve members of the Pittsburg State University football team earned All-MIAA honors following a vote of the league coaches Tuesday (Nov. 17).

Junior linebacker Spencer Brown, senior defensive back Dino Teague, junior defensive back Deron Washington and junior defensive lineman Heath Wilson all were named to the second-team All-MIAA squad, while sophomore offensive lineman Bo Farrow and senior return specialist Marquise Cushon garnered third-team All-MIAA recognition. Sophomore linebacker Demetrius Bernard, junior place kicker Chad Levin, freshman quarterback John Roderique, Jr., sophomore running back Michael Rose, senior running back Jeff Seybold, Jr., and senior defensive lineman Montrae Strickland all received honorable mention All-MIAA recognition.

Brown, a Lee's Summit, Mo., native, made a team-leading 94 tackles (41 solo) with 8.5 TFLs, 3.5 quarterback sacks and six pass break-ups, while Washington, from Raymore, Mo., mde 81 stops (46 solo) with 4.0 TFLs and 10 pass break-ups. Wilson, a Wagoner, Okla., native, made 49 tackles with a team-leading 11.0 TFLs and 7.5 quarterback sacks, while Teague, from Tulsa, Okla., made 24 stops (18 solo) with a team-leading five interceptions and five PBUs despite missing the final two games of the season due to injury.

Farrow, a Broken, Arrow, Okla., native, anchored a young Pitt State offensive line that helped the Gorillas average 30.5 points and 400.5 total yards per game. Cushon, an explosive athlete from Kansas City, Mo., averaged 21.9 yards on kickoff returns and 9.3 yards on punt returns while compiling a team-leading 1,129 all-purpose yards (102.6 ypg).

Roderique, a Webb City, Mo., native, completed 94 of 157 passes (.599) for 1,264 yards and nine touchdowns in six games (210.7 ypg) and rushed the ball 80 times for 466 yards (5.6 ypc) and a team-leading nine TDs before having his season cut short due to injury.

Seybold, from Lincoln, Neb., carried the ball 151 times for a team-leading 696 yards (4.6 ypc) and six TDs, while Rose, an Albuquerque, N.M., native, rushed the ball 72 times for 412 yards (5.7 ypc) and five scores.

Bernard, an O'Fallon, Mo., native, made 46 tackles (31 solo) with 7.0 TFLs, while Strickland, a Lee's Summit, Mo., native, made 42 tackles (18 solo) with 5.0 TFLs and 2.5 quarterback sacks.

Levin, from Tulsa, Okla., converted nine of 12 field goals and 40 of 41 PAT tries on the season, scoring a team-leading 67 points (6.1 ppg).
