Phoenix Fired Art Raises Money for the Hungry at Empty Bowls Fundraiser

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

"Phoenix Fired Art" in Joplin held its fourth annual "Empty Bowls" fundraiser today. Around 18 local restaurants and community members cooked up everything from stews to classic chicken noodle soup for lunch and dinner. For a minimum donation of $15 visitors enjoyed a handmade pottery bowl to fill with soup. Funds raised will go to several local hunger agencies.

"Our event is always the Thursday before Thanksgiving because everyone is getting ready for a big feast of gratitude with their family. And it's a good time to think about those people in our community who have less than we do and be generous about it,” says “Phoenix Fired Arts” owner Heather Grills.

Shop workers threw about a thousand bowls at this summer's Bowl-a-thon in preparation for the fundraiser. “Phoenix Fired Art” hopes to raise about $20,000 this year.
