RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE ATHLETICS:

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Pittsburg State head softball coach Elizabeth Economon is pleased to announce the signing of four high school student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the Gorillas. Kylie DeClue, Leeann Farren, Kala Holder and Kaity Kukowski will join Pitt State to play in the 2017 season.

"We are excited about this class," Economon said. "We are bringing in four solid athletes, who are capable of competing at a high level. The seniors we are graduating will leave big shoes to fill and I feel confident that this group can handle it. Their athleticism and overall enthusiasm will be fun to watch throughout their careers at Pitt State."

Kylie DeClue is a 5-10, right handed outfielder from Parkville, Mo. She has been a four-year starter for the Park Hill South Panthers where she is coached by Josh Walker. She helped guide the Panthers to a 45-14 record over the last two season while earning all-state honors both years. She was also a four-year all-district selection and a two-year all-region honoree. She hit .460 with 24 career home runs, 114 RBI and 131 hits. She has also lettered in basketball and track. Kylie is the daughter of Stuart and Jan DeClue. She plans to major in plastics engineering at Pittsburg State.

"Kylie will be an immediate power threat in our lineup,"Economon said. "She hits from the right side and is able to utilize the entire field. Defensively, in the outfield, she has a strong arm and gets a good jump on the ball."

Leeann Farren is a 5-6 right handed catcher and infielder from Harrisonville, Mo. She has been a three-year starter for the Harrisonville High School Wildcats, coached by Dave Hix. She hit 11 home runs her senior season to set the school record, while putting up a .378 batting average and a .722 slugging percentage. She helped to guide the Wildcats to a Missouri State semifinal appearance as a sophomore and reached as far as the state quarterfinals her senior season. She was a two-time first-team all-conference and all-district selection and also earned first-team all-region honors at a senior. She has also lettered in basketball and track. Leeann is the daughter of Mark and Johnelle Farren. She plans to major in psychology at Pittsburg State.

"Leeann is an athlete," Economon said. "Defensively, she has great skills behind the plate, but can also play a corner. At the plate, Leeann will pose a power threat."

Kala Holder is a 5-9 catcher and short stop from Olathe, Kan. She helped the Olathe South Falcons to a 22-2 record and a state title in 2015. As a junior, Holder hit .564 with two home runs, 40 RBI, 35 runs scores and a .833 slugging percentage. She has been a three-time All-Sunflower League catcher. She has also earned all-conference honors in basketball. Holder is coached by Mike Allen. Kala is the daughter of Rob and Gail Holder. She plans to major in nursing at PSU.

"Kala comes in and will add some depth behind the plate," Economon said. "She has competed at a very high level during club ball and high school ball. She is also very versatile as a defender. At the plate, Kala hits from the right side with power."

Kaity Kukowski is a 5-2 right handed middle infielder from Olathe, Kan. She attends Olathe Northwest High School where she is coached by Mark Mahoney. She has been a two-time honorable mention all-conference performer and earned first-team all-conference and Class 6A All-State honors as a junior. As a sophomore, Kukowski helped the team to a 20-5 record and a fourth place tournament in the Kansas Class 6A state tournament. Kukowski has played travel ball for Team Kansas Gold coached by Mark Ingle, and has twice qualified for ASA Gold Nationals. Kaity is the daughter of Todd and Jana Kukowski. "Kaity is a middle infielder with good hands, quick feet, and great instincts," Economon said. "Offensively, she possesses both speed and power."
