Joplin museum director receives state recognition

Joplin's Spiva Center for the Arts director is recognized by the Missouri Arts Council.  Jo Mueller is receiving the council's Leadership in the Arts award.  The arts council says Mueller has transformed the center into a vibrant, accessible cultural anchor for the region, and an engine for economic development and better quality of life.

Mueller says her life has been devoted towards the Joplin art museum.

Mueller says, "When I first started here, there were just two of us and a handful of volunteers who worked the desk.  And then, a bigger crew of amazing volunteers who would come out to help when we needed to get something done.  So, you do everything!"

Mueller and other awards recipients across the state will receive their awards at the state capitol in February.
