Another delay for future Kansas casino

Updated:
Pittsburg, KS -

It's looking more likely there's going to be another delay in the construction of a new casino in Southeast Kansas.  The Kansas Lottery Commission has granted developers behind the Kansas Crossing Casino another 90-day extension.  It means the deadline for when the casino is to be up and running has been extended.

The casino's first 90-day extension was in September.  The extensions allow work on the project to stop.

Developers say some litigation by backers of a proposed casino elsewhere in Southeast Kansas is too much of a risk to take, for now.  It remains to be seen if Kansas Crossing developers will take advantage of the now 180-day extension they have been granted.  But the Kansas Lottery Commission says the state and local governments will lose nearly $5 million if the 180-day extension is fully utilized.

Neither Kansas Crossing or Kansas Lottery Commission officials have returned out phone calls for comment on this story.
