Defense Leads PSU Women to 5-0



PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State Women's Basketball team stretched a 37-23 halftime lead to a 76-38 final as it only allowed Northeastern State to hit two shots from the floor in the second half.

Northeastern State was 2-of-26 from the floor and added 10 free throws to score 15 second half points. Pitt State shot 43 percent and scored 15 points in the third quarter and added 24 more in the fourth quarter to earn the largest win in the history of the series between the two teams. 

Mikaela Burgess led the Gorillas with 17 points, including a 5-for-9 performance from long range. Cathy Brugman added 12 points. Kylie Gafford chipped in with 10 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds for a double-double, the first by a Gorilla player this season. Paige Lungwitz added eight rebounds. Brugman and Hadyn Herlocker each dished out four assists and Herlocker did not have a turnover in the game. 

Every active player on the Gorilla roster saw court time, with 11 of the 14 scoring in the game. 

Pitt State will return to action on Saturday, December 5 at 1:30 p.m. against Central Oklahoma.
