Labette County looking for new Attorney

Updated:
PARSONS, KANSAS -

The Labette County Republican Central Committee will meet Monday, December 28, in the basement of the Parsons Municipal Building to select a new replacement for Hillary McKinney, the present Labette County attorney. Ms. McKinney resigned her position effective December 31. The replacement meeting will begin at 7:00 pm but credentialing for the voting delegates will start at 6:30 pm.

Only precinct committee people will be allowed to vote for the replacement. Every voting precinct in Labette County has a precinct committeeman and committeewoman for each political party. These people are either elected during the general election or selected by the party chairman if no one runs to fill the office during the election.

At this time, Deputy County Attorney Stephen Jones is the only declared candidate for the office. To be eligible to serve as the Labette County attorney, the candidate must be an attorney who is licensed to practice law in the state of Kansas. A candidate is not required to be a Labette County resident.

Anyone who meets the qualifications and would like to run for this position should contact Labette County Republican Central Committee Chairman Mike Howerter. His email address is nicermike14@yahoo.com.
